Change the Case of Already Typed Text

You may need to change the case of already typed text. Either you change your mind, pressed the wrong button, or just have “Caps Lock” enabled.
No matter how it happened, you now have text in the wrong case and you have to re-type it. Right? Wrong.

Let’s see what you can do in Word:

Select the text or word you want to change.
If you have a newer version of Word, look in the “Home” tab of the ribbon in the “Font” section for a button with an upper and lower case “Aa”. Click it and select your case.
In older versions of Word without the Ribbon choose Format, Change Case and select between sentence case, lowercase, uppercase, title case, and toggle case (Great for Caps-Lock problems). Select the case you want and click OK.

How about in WordPerfect?

Select the text or word you want to change. Choose Edit, Convert Case and click your choice.

Windows 7 Explorer Taskbar Icon – Change Open To Target

In Windows 7 you have the Explorer icon in the taskbar which opens by default in your libraries.
While that may be convenient for some, it certainly isn’t for everyone.
Head over to SevenForums.com for a very nice decription on how to change the location the Explorer window opens on with many options listed to select in addition to the standard Windows paths you can use.

Attribute Changer

Attribute Changer is a shell extension integrating into your Windows Explorer 32 bit and 64 bit that not only allows you to change the read-only, system, hidden, archive, compress and index attributes but also allows you to change the file dates and exif image dates as well which is great if you forgot to set the correct date and time on your camera since it can bulk change the dates/times by a specific offset, not just to specific times!

English Keyboard Types French

Every once in a while it seems to happen to many people that your keyboard “acts funky” and doesn’t let you type characters like \][/   and some others and it spits out french characters instead.
This happens if you accidentally switch the keyboard to French.
Hold the CTRL and SHIFT keys down together to switch between French and English. Sometimes it takes two or three tries to switch.

Enable Hibernate on Your PC

The Hibernate function on computers can be quite useful. When resuming from hibernate you can start right away where you left off with all programs open as they were when you stopped working and frequently the resuming from hibernate is faster than starting the computer after it was shut off.
You will still have to periodically reboot since Windows does get slower after some cycles, but that can be many days.
Many laptops have this function enabled when you are in the shut down menu, but most desktops do not. Continue reading “Enable Hibernate on Your PC”

CPU Benchmarks

With the new processors it is often hard to figure out how fast they are compared to others. And you need to do that to see how good of a deal that advertised computer really is.
Recently we looked at a laptop that seemed quite nice. Then we compared the processor benchmark of that laptop to the other ones sitting beside it and found out that the sale price wasn’t good – it was unbelievable. So we bought it. Since then we have compared currently advertised models and never came even close in value or speed. And yes, the laptop IS FAST.
How do you get the benchmark of processors? The easiest way is to go to this benchmark list and look it up.
Don’t forget though that this is only part of the equation. Graphic speed and RAM (and other items) need to be considered as well.
