Making PDFs

I had recently a few requests on creating PDFs, and I thought I would share my thoughts with you.

In our company we almost don’t use Acrobat Destiller or the Acrobat Plug-Ins into Office to create PDFs. We create many PDFs with PDF995 available for free at PDF995.com. It is a two step installer and you will get an advert popping up after each use if you don’t buy it for $9.95, but we like the files it creates. Well working with minimum issues. And fast.

Another option that is available for free and works well is PrimoPDF available at http://www.primopdf.com/.

The best solution to create PDFs is often the native built in function of the software you are using. After all – that program knows most about the file you are working on. These functions are built into programs like CorelDRAW, InDesign, Illustrator and the WordPerfect suite since a while, but Microsoft Office 2007 requires a separate download from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4d951911-3e7e-4ae6-b059-a2e79ed87041&displaylang=en to work. Just make sure that if you have Acrobat installed as well, that you use the Microsoft function and not the Adobe function to create PDFs. This is not really Microsoft’s fault this time though: Click here

And if you have Corel WordPerfect X4, it does now also include some PDF import functions if you need to import text from multi-page PDFs.
