Folder Recognition in Windows Vista

If you are using Windows Vista you know that Vista tries to figure out what kind of files you have in a folder and tries to show them to you in an “optimized” view.
You also probably know that that is not always accurate and that Vista doesn’t always respect your wishes when you change the view.
How about if Vista wouldn’t try to guess anymore?
You can download ExplorerView and disable the automatic content detection to stop Vista from guessing.

So – how does it feel using the computer with it? I have it running since a few days now and I didn’t notice anything. Until I came across the program’s icon again and remembered that I ran it to change the setting. Thinking of the past few days – I don’t remember having to change any folder away from the view I saw as I usually have to. So it certainly works great for me.
I am not quite sure about the other settings of the program and the website doesn’t tell you anything about it either, but the auto-detect disabling is worth the free download.
It does have a menu-link to a free unrelated book, but you can ignore that one too.
